Lexington Medical Center will help Lexington County children battling cancer receive meals, lodging, and travel for lifesaving cancer treatment with a $25,000 grant to Children’s Cancer Partners of the Carolinas (CCP).
“Lexington Medical Center is grateful for the services these partner organizations provide our community. We’re happy to provide financial support, which allows them to continue addressing healthcare needs and bridging the healthcare gaps within our service area,” said Thomas Tafel, Community Outreach Manager at Lexington Medical Center.
CCP provides emotional and financial support for children battling cancer and their families. Just this year alone, it will help more than 2,100 children with cancer as they travel so extensively since only three of South Carolina’s 46 counties have pediatric cancer care. “Some of our children and their families travel hundreds of miles a week to get to treatment. Others might not even have treatment options available in their state,” CCP Executive Director Laura Allen said. “Family incomes plummet when a child is diagnosed. Most two-income families go down to one, and it’s even harder for a single mother or father to get their children the treatment they need. Families need to focus on their children getting better, not worry about paying bills. Children’s Cancer Partners is here to help any Carolina child who is battling cancer, and grants like this make that help possible.”
For its giving criteria, Lexington Medical Center prioritizes organizations serving the local community’s health needs, increasing access to healthcare services for underserved populations, improving education about and prevention of health problems resulting from social and environmental issues, demonstrating collaboration with existing healthcare initiatives, improving access to health care and support services for vulnerable and at-risk populations, and improving the capacity of safety net services and providers.
Thank you for helping us save lives, Lexington Medical Center!
