Frequently Asked Questions

Any parent or caregiver of a child or youth ages birth to 18 who has been diagnosed with cancer is welcome to request our assistance.  While pediatric social workers at treatment centers in the Carolinas or bordering states routinely refer families to us at diagnosis, there can be oversights or exceptions, so we are always alert to children in need.  Please contact us immediately.

No family budgets for cancer, and the non-medical costs average $10,000 or more over the course of treatment. CCP responds within 24 hours to each new request or hospital referral, first with emotional support and the assurance of our ongoing support to age 21, then practical support with care navigation and financial assistance including:
  • transportation costs of auto mileage, air or train fares, taxis, parking
  • lodging at treatment sites or en route
  • meals-away-from-home
  • critical home care needs including prescribed special diets
  • patient peer support like activities, camps
  • emergency needs involving evictions, utility cancellations etc. that would impair patient care
