CCP Hurricane Helene Impact

Hurricane Helene’s destruction is devastating for millions in the Carolinas. For many of our children, the impact increases their life or death risks.

As of today, we support 2,256 children and their families. These children are all in different stages of their cancer journey. Whether just diagnosed, in the midst of treatment, dealing with after-effects or ongoing challenges of survivorship, they need us, and they need you.

As of October 4, 2024, we have 418 children and their families in damaged areas of South Carolina and Western North Carolina alone, and that number only continues to grow. Many roads are closed with no way in and no way out. Getting to treatment is extremely difficult. Many of our children with cancer already need specialized care, requiring lengthy travel. Now, many more are displaced from their primary cancer care locations and traveling even farther.

So many lack cell service, power, Internet access, or transportation. Some children cannot receive essential homecare. This means overnight stays at hotels if they can even find vacancy or drive to one. Several of our families have trees coming through their roofs, on top of their cars, or blocking their way into and out of their homes. With no refrigeration and limited access, they need even more food assistance.

Imagine having to administer cancer medications by candlelight.

Imagine wondering how to get a nutritious meal for your child when you cannot travel, grocery store shelves are empty, and power has not been restored.

Imagine wondering where you’ll spend the night, or how you’ll refill your child’s medications or oxygen.

That’s why we need your help today.
